The 9″ GOLDHAWK is my new favourite coil

I purchased the 9″ round GOLDHAWK coil as I wanted something small and suitable for detecting the creeks and old overgrown alluvial workings in Tassie’s goldfields. On my first trip with the coil, it nearly paid for itself on some alluvial workings in a gully that I thought had been fairly well stripped of any detectable gold – and that had been raked and worked quite thoroughly by other operators and machines, as well as myself with the GPX 6000 and standard 11″ coil.

On this particular trip I detected three grams of gold around two old timers’ shafts, as well as multiple smaller pieces totalling 1.8 grams. This was a huge result for me, as on my last visit to the area I came home with nothing but rubbish. And anyone who’s detected in Tassie knows the gold can be few and far between. I was over the moon with the result and began to wonder what other extensively detected areas this coil and machine working in conjunction could unlock – I reckon it could be a game changer.

The 9″ GOLDHAWK is my new favourite coil. I find it to be very light and perfectly balanced on the GPX 6000, and in this location it allowed me to run the machine at a slightly higher sensitivity than I normally would with the standard 11″ coil. I found even at the increased sensitivity it remained more stable than the standard 11″ coil, especially when bumped or while passing over the edge of a small lip or ridge where the 11 can get a bit noisy. I am wrapped with the amazing sensitivity and stability of this coil, and will most likely grab the other two sizes in the GOLDHAWK range when the Mrs permits it.
